Cork based artist Anne-May Tabb received her Bachelor Honours Degree in Fine Art from MTU Crawford College of Art & Design in 2018.
In her practice, Anne-May explores aspects of the everyday, relying on spontaneity, humour and connections which are found in the seemingly mundane. Whether it’s obvious or not, her work relates to her interpretation of - to name a few - TV shows, holiday memories and flatpack furniture from IKEA. However ambiguous the work may appear, through these relateable concepts, Anne-May hopes the viewer makes connections to their own everyday lives.
The objects used are either found or cheap and cheerful necessities. Anne-May makes a point to reuse and manipulate material to repurpose it as art, shining a light on the ‘normal’. The work is susceptible to what she can find and the ideas she can generate from it, making her art process quick and playful.
These concerns have remained a large part of her practice since her Degree Show See/Saw where she was shortlisted for the RDS Visual Arts Award and awarded the Backwater Studios Residency Award. Since 2016 she has taken part in several group exhibitions around Ireland showcasing her intuitive mixed-media style through installation and excitedly welcomed her first solo-show with Can You Hear Me Damo? in 2022.
Since it’s establishment in 2020, Anne-May has worked as the Research Assistant for Drawbridge, the drawing research hub based at MTU CCAD, a group which is exploring contemporary drawing practice in its widest possible interpretations through interdisciplinary projects, collaborations and exhibitions.
